Rock climbing in Nepal is a challenging sport in Nepal in which the participants either climb up natural rock formations or artificial rock walls. The main goal is to reach the top of the rock formation using the hands and rope on the pre-defined route. The trip to these places can be combined with bird watching, hiking, nature tours and other adventure sports.

Rock climbing is a very tough sport, physically and mentally testing the climber’s strength, endurance and balance. Natural Rock climbing

Balaju Rock Climbing

This spot is located just 3 km North West of Kathmandu valley and just 20mins drive from the central tourist hub, Thamel, which is the best place for all kinds of climbers, from beginners to professionals. There are more than 21 climbing routes from grade 4a to 7a+ overhang climbing. For the self-learners, there are many multi-pitch 30m and single-pitch 12m.

Hattiban Rock Climbing

This site is situated 26 km southwest of Kathmandu valley. The climbing grades go from 6a to 7a, and this place is primarily good in winter.  Having more than 8 routes, one can enjoy the top-level climbing grade.

Thame Rock Climbing

This spot is situated in the eastern part of Nepal in the Khumbu region at 3800 m above sea level. This rock climbing has more than 17 routes starting from 4c to 7c multi-pitch at 200 m height. One can observe the most popular Everest region while climbing at this site.

Bimal Nagar Rock Climbing

This newly opened site is located southwest of Kathmandu valley on the way to Pokhara, 140 km from Kathmandu. It is about 60 m of natural rock climbing with only a few fixed routes, with 4 multi-pitch and some single pitches. One can enjoy the views of Mt Manaslu and the Marshyangdi river.

Astrek climbing wall

Astrek climbing wall is located in the heart of Kathmandu, i.e., Thamel. It is one of the oldest and most popular climbing walls in Kathmandu. It offers a 50ft wall for climbing and bouldering too.

Initiative Outdoor Bouldering Wall

It’s located in Patan, and you need to walk a bit to get there. Apart from bouldering and wall climbing, they also teache first aid courses.

Pasang Lhamu Sports Climbing Centre

Pasang Lhamu is one of Kathmandu's oldest wall climbing centers located near the ring road in Dhumbarahi. The climbing wall is long, wide and well-made where anyone from starters to professionals can practice and hone their skills.

Kathmandu Sport Climbing Center

Located in Kaldhara Marg near Thamel, it is a newly built rock climbing and bouldering center.
