  • Explore the renowned villages like Namche Bazaar
  • Explore and experience the Everest people i.e. Sherpa’s lifestyles and cultures, their villages and century old monasteries
  • One of the shortest climbing with slight technical difficulties
  • Daily mountain views

Kyajo Ri peak (6186m) is remarkably more harder, physically and technically than popular trekking peaks like Island Peak or Lobuche East, both of which are a simple one-day, climb to the summit style of peak. In 2002 it was opened for the climb and was climbed for the first time by French / British team. The trek into base camp is a pleasure in itself while at the same time providing the necessary acclimatization for the peak climb. Kyajo Ri peak climbing offers challenging and astonishing views of peaks over 8000 meters including Mt. Everest 8848m, Mt. Lhotse 8516m, Mt. Makalu 8463m, Mt. Cho Oyu 8201m and other eye-catching high peaks in the Khumbu Himal range. Kyajo Ri is the most suitable climbing peak if you are looking for adventure in 6000 m peaks. Kyajo Ri climbing will also improve your Alpine Mountaineering techniques as well as provide an adventurous alpine expedition experience in the Himalayas.

Kyajo Ri is the most suitable Himalayan peak for those climbers making their first visit to Nepal or those climbers who want to take the next technical step up from Island and Mera Peak. Kyajo Ri has been climbed from South-west Ridge, South-east Ridge, and North Face, but the easiest and the most repeated path is the Southwestern Ridge. From Namche ahead as well, different routes can be used, combining the exciting and adventurous treks over many passes and different other points of Everest Region. The following itinerary takes you to the straight climbing route and back to Namche.

Once at the top you will be satisfied with the most amazing wide views across the whole Khumbu region. Descending downwards will be through a number of rock faces, technical down climbing through rock and snow in icy conditions. But you are always rewarded by the sweet hot beverage once you get to the base camp. A great challenging experience for the aspiring Alpine Mountaineer.

Day 02: Sightseeing and Preparation for Kyajo Ri Peak Climbing

An important day to adapt to the new country since the journey ahead will take you to the higher altitudes. All the preparations have to be done today and the documents made ready to start the journey. Depending on the guest’s request, we will go out for the wonderful day tour to the few of the most beautiful “World’s Heritage Sites”. Get astounded by the unique history, arts and local cultures.

Day 03: Fly from Kathmandu to Lukla (2800m) and trek to Phakding (2640m)

After early morning breakfast, we will get to the airport to have a scenic flight to the most adventurous airport in the lap of the Himalayas, LUKLA. This short flight is so breathtaking that you feel you are already on the destination but “NO”, the journey has just begun. There are the beverages waiting for you when you touch down so that you can talk about how the short flight has blown your mind. As in all games, first steps are easy so we trek slowly towards Phakding village.

Day 04: Trek from Phakding to Namche Bazaar (3440m)

This day we will enter the World Heritage listed ‘Sagarmatha National Park’. The walk follows the DUDH KOSHI River upstream and crossing several bridges time and again we will climb to the last town in the region called Namche Bazaar.

Day 05: Rest at Namche Bazaar and acclimatization

Chilling day to enjoy the wonderful views of different mountain ranges. We will take a short uphill walk to the NATIONAL PARK HEADQUARTER which is our magnificent viewpoint for Ama Dablam, Thamserku, Kangtega, Kwangde, Khumbila, Mt. Everest and Lhotse. More excursions can be done upon request.

Day 06: Trek from Namche Bazaar to Mende (3736m)

After spending a rest day and exploring Namche Bazaar, today we follow the route that heads west as we trek up the Bhote Koshi Valley, once a popular trade route to Tibet. We will have beautiful views of Kwangde Peak to our left and trek along the beautiful waterfall. Our trek goes passing through thick Rhododendron forest and takes right just before the village of Thamo. We will climb steeply for about an hour towards the community of Mendes where we spend our overnight.

Day 07: Trek from Mende to Kyajo Ri Base Camp (4550m)

Leaving Mende towards Kyajo Ri Base camp, we will follow a faint Yak trail over a couple of passes to enter Kyajo Drangka which is an isolated broad valley located south of Kyajo Ri. During our trek today, we will have great views of Thamserku, Kusum Kanguru, Kwangde Peak, Parchamo Peak and other surrounding snow-capped peaks. After few hours of uphill trekking, we will arrive at the summer yak grazing pasture where we will set up our base camp. Our Sherpa crews will make necessary preparations for setting up camps at a higher elevation and start making checks on our climbing gears.

Day 08: Rest day at Kyajo Ri Base Camp

We have reached over 4500 meters above sea level by now, so in order to avoid altitude sickness, we will take a rest day for acclimatization at the base camp. Besides, we will have great views of the surrounding peaks and mountain valleys from the base camp. For acclimatization, we can hike following the fascinating trails that offer magnificent views of snow-capped mountains. While we spend our day exploring around base camp, our Sherpa crew will make necessary checks and preparations of our climbing gears needed for Kyajo Ri Expedition.

Day 09: Climb from Kyajo Ri Base Camp to Camp I (5200m)

After spending a full day rest at the Base Camp, we continue on our uphill trekking to the higher elevation. We will have splendid views of Kyajo Ri Peak and perfect glacial lakes. We will camp here at Camp I before heading up to higher elevation.

Day 10: Acclimatization and rest at Camp I

Another day's rest for acclimatization is necessary to ascertain successful summit climb and to avoid mental and physical sickness that may come about due to altitude sickness. Accordingly, today we will take a rest at Camp 1st and indulge ourselves in some good expedition that offers good acclimatization options with best views of nearby high peaks. Our crew member will make Compulsory checks to our health conditions and other climbing equipment required for successful Kyajo Ri Peak Climbing.

Day 11: Climb from Camp I to Camp II (5700m)

After spending a good acclimatization day at Camp 1st, we head further higher. Today's climb includes technical climbing over rocks and glaciers so we need to make us fixed in ropes and crampons. After some hours of the tiring climb, we will arrive at a good camping site near a huge glacial lake at an elevation of 5,700 meters. Once we reach our campsite, our Sherpa crew will quickly set up the camp and start making necessary preparations for the final summit climb.

Day 12: Summit Kyajo Ri Peak (6186m) and back to Camp II

Today is the day we were seriously waiting for as we will make a final climb to the summit. Fully applied and properly adjusted we start early to reach the summit before noon as the strong winds after midday can create troubles making it impossible to reach the summit. Following the instructions and guidance of our experienced climbing experts, we will overcome several technical sections and head towards the sharp summit of Kyajo Ri Peak. Our tiring climb to the summit is rewarded with splendid views of the world's towering mountains including Everest, Lhotse, Makalu, Cho Oyu, Ama Dablam and other surrounding high peaks. We will spend short quality time at the top before descending down to the same route and head back to Camp II.

Day 13: Descend back to Kyajo Ri Base Camp

After successfully achieving the summit of Kyajo Ri Peak, we will take it easy and after having breakfast we start to descend down from Camp 2nd and follow the same way to descend down to the base camp via Camp I. We continue to descend energetically downhill to finally arrive at the base camp for our overnight camping.

Day 14: Trek from Kyajo Ri Base Camp to Namche Bazaar

Leaving our camping site at the Base camp, we will again continue to descend down, that leads us back through Mende. We will leave the alpine vegetation and enter into the sub-tropical forested area filled with rhododendron trees. A rather easy trek will lead us back to Namche Bazaar.

Day 15: Trek from Namche Bazaar to Lukla

It was just like yesterday since we began this journey and we’ve already come to the FINAL DAY of our memorable adventure. After the rigorous adventure for a number of days, we’ve come to the pleasant walking day to continue and ultimately arrive at Lukla for spending the last night in the Everest region.

Day 16: Fly from Lukla to Kathmandu

Another short and fascinating flight to get BACK TO KATHMANDU where you have rest of the day for souvenir shopping, sightseeing (optional) and relaxing in rooftop cafes. Treat yourself with the Trekkers’ Massage or similar other therapies and relax in the night (can be arranged upon request). Farewell dinner is served.
